Bereavement work

Awhile back -- year or three ago -- I got a sudden assignment to cover Tony's bereavement clients when he retired. I had several weeks notice and plenty of guidance from Tony about his specific folks. I learned a lot about bereavement counseling during those few months, and then eventually we hired a couple new coordinators who had social work degrees, and I finished up with the last of the clients and went back to chaplaincy.

Now it's happened again -- I'm covering Carolyn's clients on just one day's notice. I'm reminded just how hard it is to manage scheduling in the Bereavement module of Epic -- and for no good reason. It's not that they don't know how to make scheduling transparent and easy to adjust, as we do in the Home Care module.

As I look at having 25 phone calls scheduled for tomorrow, plus at least two Zoom sessions, I'm trying to figure out how to manage it all.
