... at least, that's what my mother would say, if she were still doing talking out loud.

At the moment, I have about 150 pages of a memoir written. I'm currently in a writing class/workshop and the work is going well, posting my own stuff and critiquing the work of classmates. If I spend an hour a day I can stay caught up, except for my own writing which takes more than that (much more).

In two weeks my house will start to fill up with family. We're hosting the probably-last gi-normous Thanksgiving here. Last time we did this, three years ago, we had 34 for dinner and 18 or 19 overnight -- wall-to-wall mattresses, folding tables borrowed from a church, the works. Just now none of the bedding is sorted, most of the bed-spaces are not cleared, there's closet space to empty, refrigerators to clean before shopping, a loom to warp up so folks can play with it in between my more serious weaving ... dozens of things, a three-page list.

Therefore, of course, I have chosen THIS year to enter National Novel Writing Month.

I started writing on November 4, four days late before beginning. I should be posting around 1650 words each day, but instead my current count is just 1291. I have excuses for this, but still.

So, okay, I spent the first day at the American Academy of Religion, walking miles between sessions, hearing papers and engaging in discussions, diving into the book displays and barely coming up for air, meeting and re-meeting colleagues from around the world. This was great, and amazing, and exhausting.

Then I took the train home from Atlanta, 18 hours in a seat in coach. I had a charming roommate, which meant I didn't even try to work. I slept some, but not enough. Got home and spent the rest of the day unpacking, since we'd done a two-week road trip before even getting to the AAR.

Then on November 3 I spent several hours writing ... polishing the chapter of memoir that was due that night. Still posted it late, though, about mid-day on the 4th.

As soon as that was done, THEN I started writing for NaNoWriMo.

Like I said, oughta have my head examined.

But instead, I'm going to drive to Delaware in the morning and spend the day at Autumn Magic.

Many Blessings to you all ... and let the games begin!
